Scope note
Members of a species of elongated, streamlined bony fish, distinguished by a tall dorsal fin, lack of pelvic fins, lack of scales and teeth in adults, and a long sword extending from its snout, used to slash at prey fish. The sword is flat, rather than rounded as in other spear-nosed fishes (such as the marlin), and thus the fish is sometimes called "broadbill."
